Dr. R. Orin Cornett taught at Oklahoma Baptist University, Penn State University, and Harvard University before coming to Gallaudet College in 1965 to serve as Vice President for Long Range Planning. He developed Cued Speech, a visual communication system that uses handshapes formed near the face in combination with speech, to help deaf children learn language.
